Please contact me if you cannot find an answer to your question.
During our first session, we will discuss your history, reasons for seeking therapy, and treatment goals. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and openly discuss your thoughts and feelings in a non-judgmental space. By the end of the session, I will be able to offer you some first impressions of what our work might include. You should evaluate this information and make your own assessment about whether you feel comfortable continuing with therapy. At the end of the evaluation, if I believe that I am not the right therapist for you, I will give you referrals to other practitioners.
Therapy is not one size fits all. During our initial session, we will discuss your availability. In order to establish rapport and help you get the most out of your sessions, it is recommended that we meet on a weekly basis. As you start to achieve your goals over time, therapy may become less frequent.
Yes, your privacy is of the utmost importance and all therapy sessions are confidential. This means that anything you discuss during session will not be shared without your permission; however, there are some exceptions to confidentiality. Limitations of confidentiality include situations where there is an immediate risk of harm to yourself or others, suspicion of abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or dependent adult, or in response to a court order. These exceptions are in place in order to protect you and others.
At this time, I do not accept any insurance. Being an out of network provider allows my clients to be more in control of their care, as they have more freedom to choose their own therapist and the length of treatment. You will be required to pay in full at the time of each session. If your insurance plan has out of network benefits, I can provide necessary documentation in order for you to submit a claim to your insurance company for reimbursement. Ultimately, the decision to reimburse is up to your insurance company.
The length of therapy varies widely depending on the needs of each client. The goal of therapy is to help you feel equipped to handle things independently and my role is to provide support for as long as you need. Some people may notice significant improvement in about 7-10 sessions and feel they have achieved their goals, while others may use therapy for ongoing "maintenance" to manage stress, much like going to the gym. We will regularly check in on your progress and work together to decide when you feel ready to end or take a break.
